Saint-Barthélemy

Luxury villa rental in Saline — St. Barth

4 exceptional villas

Grande Saline lies on the southern side of Saint-Barthélemy, roughly fifteen minutes by car from Gustavia and a comparable distance from Gustave III Airport. The neighborhood takes its name from salt marshes developed in 1820, when engineers built dikes and channels to direct seawater into crystallization basins. Salt production continued — with several interruptions — until 1971, when refrigeration made the industry redundant. Today those pink-tinged ponds form a quiet bird sanctuary, in striking contrast to the beach that borders them. Anse de Grande Saline is the island's second-largest beach, after Flamands, and one of the few entirely free of construction. A short walk along a dune path is all that separates the parking area from the shore, lending the spot an air of genuine seclusion that appeals to guests choosing a private villa rental in this part of the island.

Why this neighborhood

  • Wild beach ranked among the finest in the Caribbean: white sand, turquoise water, and no buildings along the shoreline.
  • Walking access directly from neighborhood villas via a short dune path that preserves the site's natural feel.
  • Former salt marshes (operated 1820–1971) now a protected wetland, offering a landscape found nowhere else on the island.
  • Roughly fifteen minutes from Gustavia's boutiques, restaurants, and marina, without the crowds of the town center.
  • Quiet, residential setting ideal for villa stays that combine seclusion with easy access to the island's amenities.
