Service VIP aéroport à Saint-Barth : arrivée SBH, transit SXM, options

On March 21, 2026, Rémy-de-Haenen airport had the busiest day of its early season: 1,496 passengers and 346 aircraft movements in a single day[3]. That figure says a great deal about high season in Saint-Barthélemy. Yet it does not tell you where the quality of an arrival is really decided, or what a VIP airport service in St. Barts can change.

The delicate moment of a trip to St. Barts rarely happens in Saint-Jean. It happens earlier, in a connection hall in St. Maarten, San Juan or Antigua, between a long-haul flight that lands late and a small plane that has to take off before sunset. This is exactly where VIP assistance makes sense: it does not shorten the distance, it takes the queue, the lost suitcase and the dash between terminals out of the equation.

This guide sets out, with sources, what actually exists at each stage: transit through St. Maarten (SXM), the alternatives via San Juan (SJU) and Antigua (ANU), arrival in St. Barts (SBH) and the entry rules to know before you book.

Why the connection matters more than the arrival

No long-haul flight lands in St. Barts. In 2025, the airport handled 232,535 passengers, 80% of them on international routes, and two hubs account for most of the traffic: Princess Juliana in Sint Maarten, with 59%, and San Juan in Puerto Rico, with 18%[2]. Over the first four months of 2026, traffic rose a further 2.15%, to 109,213 passengers[3].

The airline that carries the most passengers to the island, Winair, sums up the difficulty itself. According to its CEO, interviewed by the Journal de Saint-Barth in May 2026, 99% of its passengers are connecting from the United States or France via St. Maarten[4]. He cites several factors that weighed on the 2025-2026 season[4]:

  • delays of 30 to 60 minutes on some days at Princess Juliana, across all airlines;
  • business-class passengers often traveling with 30 to 40 kg of luggage each, which leads the airline to cap passengers at 16 on 19-seat aircraft;
  • security screening that sometimes makes passengers miss their flight while their bags are still on the carousel;
  • cancellations caused by nightfall on late-afternoon flights.

The airline announced a sixth Twin Otter for the winter and fewer late-afternoon flights, especially at weekends[4]. These measures help, but they do not remove the underlying constraint: a tight connection, in a busy airport, onto a plane that cannot wait for nightfall.

What a VIP airport service involves

The principle is simple: a dedicated agent welcomes you, handles the formalities and accompanies you to your car, your boat or your connecting flight. As we offer it through the Sun Beach House concierge, the service covers both directions of the trip.

On arrival:

  • personal welcome at the aircraft or in the terminal;
  • priority passage through immigration and customs (fast track);
  • luggage handling;
  • escort through the terminal;
  • coordination with your driver, sea transfer or connecting flight.

On departure:

  • luggage collection from your villa to the airport;
  • dedicated check-in;
  • priority access to security and passport control;
  • escort to the boarding gate;
  • VIP lounge access, subject to availability.

This service is optional and charged separately. It can be arranged in particular in St. Maarten (SXM), St. Barts (SBH), San Juan (SJU) and Antigua (ANU). It does not exempt you from any formality: it makes them faster and calmer.

Transit through St. Maarten (SXM): what to know

Two entry regimes on one island

Princess Juliana is on the Dutch side of St. Martin. The Prefecture of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin reminds travelers that those who enter through this airport must also comply with the entry rules of the Dutch side[1]. It also points out that short-stay Schengen visas issued by states other than France are not valid in Saint-Barthélemy, since the island is not part of the Schengen area, and that no tourist visa is issued on arrival[1]. If you are traveling with guests of other nationalities, have their situation checked on the official France-Visas website several weeks before departure.

The airport lounge

Sint Maarten airport operates the Princess Sky Lounge, in the departure hall near gate A1, open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.[5]. Access is included for Priority Pass and LoungeKey members, and for business-class or SkyTeam Elite Plus passengers on Air France, KLM and Air Caraïbes; other travelers can enter for $60 per adult and $45 per child under five[5].

Winair flights

If your connection is on Winair, one practical point matters: the provider Fivestars states that since October 16, 2025 it has been Winair's exclusive meet-and-greet partner in Sint Maarten and St. Barts, and the only provider authorized to pre-check passengers and their luggage on these flights[6]. This is worth passing on to your concierge when you book.

On luggage, Winair's rules are strict: the first checked bag is included only depending on the fare purchased; second and third bags are accepted on standby, depending on the aircraft's weight and balance, and may travel on the next flight; no bag over 31 kg is accepted, and the limit is generally two pieces[7]. For a two-week villa stay, it is therefore wise to plan volume and weight ahead, or to expect a suitcase to join you later.

In May 2026, Winair also signed an interline agreement with the U.S. carrier Contour Airlines, which allows connecting itineraries to be booked between the two networks via Sint Maarten[11].

By private jet

For private flights, Princess Juliana has two business aviation terminals (FBOs), ExecuJet by Atlantic Aviation and Signature Aviation, located west of the main terminal. Customs and immigration are handled on site, and landing requires clearance and a slot obtained in advance, usually by the operator[8].

Via San Juan (SJU) or Antigua (ANU)

San Juan is the island's second gateway. Tradewind Aviation, the second-largest airline at St. Barts by passengers with an average of 5,284 passengers a month in early 2026[3], operates scheduled flights year-round from there, as well as from Antigua. The airline states about one hour of flight time from San Juan and 35 minutes from Antigua, on an eight-seat Pilatus PC-12 flown by two pilots[9].

In San Juan, Tradewind describes a journey close to an integrated VIP service: a private lounge, an expedited security area straight to the aircraft and, for connecting passengers, a welcome at the arriving airline's gate with help retrieving and re-checking luggage[9]. This is included for private flights; for scheduled flights it is offered at $300 per group, provided the group arrives on the same connecting flight[9]. On the way back, in San Juan as in Antigua, the airline's staff meet passengers at immigration and customs and direct them to the check-in for their next flight[9].

Another advantage of this route: Tradewind has interline agreements with American, United, JetBlue and British Airways, which allows a single ticket and automatic luggage transfer[9]. For Antigua, the airline does not describe a dedicated lounge: this is where a welcome service arranged in advance is most useful.

On arrival in St. Barts (SBH)

Rémy-de-Haenen airport is in Saint-Jean. Several providers based at the airport offer a VIP welcome with immigration assistance, priority security checks and escort to connecting flights; one of them, on the first floor of the terminal, is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.[10].

For you, the main issue in St. Barts is continuity: that your driver is there at the actual landing time, that luggage left behind in St. Maarten is collected from the next flight and delivered to the villa, and that departure is organized in the other direction with the same precision. If you are staying near the airport, our selection of villas in Saint-Jean shortens the journey even further.

How to arrange your VIP airport service

  1. Book at the same time as your flights. Share flight numbers, times and number of bags: this is what makes it possible to coordinate the welcome, the connection and the driver.
  2. Choose your hub based on where you are coming from. Routes to St. Barts are detailed in our guide on how to get to St. Barts.
  3. Check every traveler's formalities. A valid passport and, if required, a visa applied for online before departure on France-Visas[1].
  4. Travel lighter or accept a delay. On small aircraft, weight decides; a suitcase may follow on the next flight[7].
  5. Avoid late-afternoon connections in high season. These are the flights most exposed to sunset-related cancellations[4].

Frequently asked questions

Is a VIP airport service required to travel to St. Barts?

No. It is entirely optional and charged separately. It is intended for travelers who want to reduce waiting and be accompanied at every stage, particularly in high season.

Does a VIP service exempt you from immigration checks in St. Maarten?

No. It speeds up the process, but the entry rules of the Dutch side apply to all travelers arriving through Princess Juliana[1].

How much does the St. Maarten airport lounge cost?

The Princess Sky Lounge is open for $60 per adult and $45 per child under five, or free of charge with Priority Pass, LoungeKey and certain Air France, KLM and Air Caraïbes tickets[5].

Will my luggage arrive at the same time as I do?

Not always. On Winair, additional bags travel on standby and may be placed on the next flight depending on the aircraft's weight[7]. A welcome service can arrange their collection and delivery.

Is it better to connect through St. Maarten or San Juan?

St. Maarten remains the main hub, with 59% of traffic, against 18% for San Juan[2]. From the United States, San Juan offers a single ticket with Tradewind and its partners[9]; Winair, for its part, says that almost all its passengers connect from the United States or France via St. Maarten[4].

Our recommendation

A VIP airport service does not transform the journey to St. Barts: it makes it clear. The biggest gain comes at the connection, in St. Maarten or San Juan, where delays, luggage and formalities meet. If you are traveling as a family, with a lot of luggage or in peak season, we recommend arranging it at the same time as your flights. Our team can coordinate it with your transfer and your arrival at the villa: simply write to us from the concierge page or through our contact form, and browse our villas for rent in St. Barts in the meantime.
